I started playing when I was about 13 years old. I mostly played by myself as a hobby. My dad taught be a lot since he’s been working as a musician and guitar teacher ever since I’ve been born. I didn’t start playing in bands until I was about 18 and I joined Citizen when I was 23.
My dad is a full time musician/guitar teacher so music and guitar has always been around on my life. I wanted to play drums at first and took lessons for a short time but didn’t stick with it and decided to pick up the guitar instead and stuck with it.
A Danelectro. It was a Christmas gift. I don’t know the model but it was very blue and very sparkly. Naturally.
A tough question, and not in any particular order:
Nirvana “In Utero”
Death Cab For Cutie “Transatlanticism”
True Widow “As High As The Highest Heavens And From The Center To The Circumference Of The Earth”
Third Eye Blind “Third Eye Blind”
On the current tour we are doing we played the Shrine in LA we played a show to over 6,000 people I believe. It was the most people we’ve ever played to and looking out to that many people was very surreal.
My dad actually obtained a very early Reverend when the company first started out. It’s been his primary electric guitar for years. We also did a tour with the band Fireworks and the we’re all rocking them and I picked around on them and realized that I should look in to getting one.
Currently using a Double Agent OG and a Club King 290.
They play very comfortably and sound incredible. Perfect weight and they look amazing. Both the guitars I’ve been playing are perfect for what my band is playing.
I play a Fender Twin Reverb and I have a small collection of Electro Harmonix, Earthquaker devices, and Boss pedals.
I’m extremely good at impressions and I can beatbox pretty well.
Play what you like even if you don’t think anyone else will.
My band Citizen’s second LP “Everybody Is Going To Heaven” is out now on Run For Cover Records. We are currently on tour with Circa Survive and RX Bandits. We will be touring Europe in January with Turnover. Also a lot more to come in 2016! Keep a look out.
