Can you give us a brief history of your playing career?
I been playin’ the guitar for forty-seven years.
What inspired you to start playing guitar?
My Mama. She played the guitar and sang.
What was your first electric guitar?
A Gibson Melody Maker.
What are your top 5 favorite records?
Tough question, but, off the top of my head, I’d have to say
1. I Ain’t Afraid Of Your Husband
2. Love On Command
3. I Make Faces When I Make Love
4. Foggy Windows
5. Pregnant Again
What was the proudest moment and/or performance of your playing career?
The first concert I gave the day after I was released from the Illinois State Pen.
How did you hear about Reverend?
One of their reps seen me play in Austin, Texas, and he told me about their guitars. I was glad he did.
What Reverend guitars are you using?
I have two Reverend Club King 290 guitars. They are both black. One has a rosewood fretboard and the other has a maple fretboard. (You can also check out the Unknown Hinson Signature model and the brand-new Stu D. Baker model, too!)
What do you like about your Reverend guitars?
They look, play and sound gooder than hell!
What amps and pedals do you currently use?
I use a VOX AC30 amp with a VOX 2X12″ extension speaker cabinet. I also use a VOX Tonelab SE pedal board controller.
Do you have any unusual hobbies, skills, or pastimes you’d like to share with us?
I like to carve puppets and ventriloquist dummies out of wood. I also like to collect old toy robots from the 1950s and ’60s. And I like to collect and restore vintage, American-made Schwinn bicycles. But most of all, I like to drink and chase womerns.
Do you have any advice for up and coming players?
Yes. Practice your guitar, at least a half hour a day, and try to avoid a prison sentence if humanely possible, ’cause your career as a guitar player WILL suffer if you go into the joint for thirty years like I done.
Please tell us about any of your current projects, tours, cds, etc. we should know about:
I tour a good bit, and I’m always workin’ on new record albums. I’m also doin’ the voice of a cartoon character named “Early Cuyler” on a show called “Squidbillies” on the Cartoon Network. If folks wanna know more about my life and music they can visit my website: www.unknownhinson.com
